How to play Sudoku

  1. Fill the 9×9 grid so every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once.
  2. Tap a cell, then tap a number on the pad. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys and type 1–9.
  3. Turn on Notes to pencil in possible numbers. Notes are cleared automatically as you place digits.
  4. Wrong numbers turn red and count as a mistake. Use Undo to step back, or Hint to reveal a cell (3 per puzzle).
  5. Pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, or play the Daily puzzle, which is the same for everyone each day.

Tips and strategy

  • Start with the numbers that already appear most often. They're the easiest to place.
  • Scan each 3×3 box for a digit that can only fit in one spot (a "hidden single").
  • On Advanced, use Notes. When two cells in a unit share the same two candidates, those digits can be removed from the rest of the unit.
  • Tap a placed number to highlight every copy of it on the board. The gaps show where it can still go.
