How to play Tic-tac-toe
- Players take turns placing X and O on a 3×3 grid. You are X against the computer.
- Get three of your marks in a row (across, down or diagonal) to win.
- If all nine squares fill with no line, the round is a draw. Players alternate who goes first.
- Choose Easy CPU, Unbeatable CPU, or 2 players to pass the phone to a friend.
Tips and strategy
- Going first? Take a corner: it gives your opponent the most ways to go wrong.
- Always block an opponent who has two in a row before making your own plan.
- Try to create a fork: a move that makes two winning threats at once.
Questions
Can you beat the Unbeatable computer?
No. It plays perfectly using the minimax algorithm, so the best result is a draw. Easy mode can be beaten.
Is tic-tac-toe the same as noughts and crosses?
Yes. Tic-tac-toe, noughts and crosses, and Xs and Os are different names for the same game.
